Easter: Governor Orji urges citizens to show love to less privileged people

Abia state governor, Chief Theodore Orji has felicitated with the Christendom as they mark the Easter season.
Chief Orji in a statement by the chief press secretary, Ugochukwu Emezue urged Christians to use this period of the resurrection of Christ to pray for peace in the nation.
The Abia state governor stated that one of the greatest solution to the nation’s security challenges remain prayers, so that God will touch the hearts of those who are bent on destroying lives and property to have a change of heart.
Chief Orji also charged the citizens to show love to the less privileged during this festive season.
The governor used the opportunity to reassure residents of Abia especially non indigenes of their security while the festivity lasts.
Security agencies have been placed on red alert to ensure that law and order are enforced during this period of celebration, the governor added.
He wished all Abians and Nigerians happy celebrations.

Orji, Okorocha: Kano Bomb Attacks Callous

Governor of Abia State, Chief Theodore Orji
¨
The Governor of Abia State, Chief Theodore Orji, and his Imo State counterpart, Chief Rochas Okorocha, yesterday described the attack at a Luxury Bus Park in Kano, which killed more than 22 people and injured many others as callous.
Speaking against the backdrop of the attack, Orji said it was imperative for Igbos to “think home if the safety of their lives is being threatened.”
The governor, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Public Communications, Mr. Ben Onyechere, said: “In view of incessant massacre unreservedly perpetrated against the Igbos it has become urgent and needful for Igbos in the north to take a decision that will forestall further killings, one of which is to come home because life is more precious than silver and gold.”
While noting that: “Nobody can restore one life that is lost no matter the amount of money or property”, the governor stated that: “It has become pertinent that since you are targets of unjustifiable attacks you may have little or no option than to relocate if necessary. I painfully send my heartfelt condolences to all those who have lost loved ones just as much as I condole myself because  I feel the pain as much as everyone else, since a dead body has no enemy.”
According to him, “in as much as the federal government is taking steps to put a stop to the murderous acts of insecurity, we as citizens and leaders have the onerous task of assisting in every way so that collectively we can find a solution to this precarious and condemnable situation which is certainly alien to this country.
Meanwhile, Okorocha, who on behalf of the people of the state sympathised with the government and the people of Kano State and families of those who lost their lives and property in the attack, said Nigeria cannot break up, instead would remain as one country.
According to him, the attack was not only barbaric but utterly evil, callous, condemnable and does not reflect the country’s belief and culture.
The governor’s message, which was signed by the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Chinedu Offor, said the state government had put security agencies on red alert to forestall any form of reprisal.
“The general public are therefore enjoined to discountenance the rumour of reprisal making rounds in some quarters and go about their lawful engagements without any fear as their security is well guaranteed.
“We also wish to reassure the entire people of the state including our brothers and sisters from the northern part of the country that government has put in place the necessary security measures for adequate protection of lives and property, and will not hesitate to deal ruthlessly with anyone that may hide under whatever guise to perpetrate crime in the state,” he said.

Revocation of Orji Kalu’s degree

Orji-kalu-new-

 Orji Uzor Kalu

COMING amidst lingering tension between Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State and his predecessor, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, the recent revocation of Kalu’s Bachelor’s degree in Government and Public Administration, by the Senate of the state-owned Abia State University (ABSU), which awarded the degree 12 years ago, is an institutional tragedy of great magnitude. Not only has academic tradition been brought low, both the state government and the university in question are now objects of ridicule.
The state government has sought, without conviction, to exculpate itself of any complicity in the matter. A statement signed by ABSU registrar and secretary to Senate said the Senate of the university cancelled and subsequently withdrew the degree result and certificate awarded “on the strength of the findings and recommendations of an investigative panel into allegations of breach of the extant Academic Regulations of Abia State University, in the admission process and graduation of Kalu Orji Uzor in the discipline of Government and Public Administration…”
Kalu’s university admission had been embroiled in questionable circumstances. It was claimed that he had been a student of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), where 18 years earlier he was a Political Science major. Kalu was said to have left school in protest against alleged persecution of student union leaders, but the claims were apparently not verified. Thereafter, he ventured into business, where he was successful. He later delved into politics, contested and won the gubernatorial seat of Abia State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 1999. By November 2001 he gained admission into the Department of Government and Public Administration of Abia State University, Uturu, and before long he had earned a Bachelor’s degree while in office as governor and Visitor to the university.
Even though the university senate, in a recent advertorial, provided some backing to justify its actions, it is worth recalling that it was before the sycophantic glare of university administrators and the then Chief of Staff, Mr. Theodore Orji (who providentially is the incumbent governor), that Kalu’s first day as an ABSU freshman was publicly celebrated, while his retinue of aides and guards flocked about him.
Did the former governor transfer his academic credits from the University of Maiduguri to Abia State University? If so, was this done with or without the instrumentation of the university system? How was he able to do this if indeed his studentship had lapsed as being alleged? It is a standing rule in the management of students that should a student be absent from school for a period of time without Senate approval, he is automatically withdrawn for lapsed studentship. In the case of Mr. Kalu, the period between his studentship at University of Maiduguri and his transfer to ABSU was nearly two decades. The question begging for answer is: Had Kalu been deferring his studentship all those years so that he could transfer his credits from one university to another, to make up the minimum credit units for graduation?
Unless credible answers are provided for these posers, it would appear that UNIMAID, its authority at the time, Mr. Orji Uzor Kalu, Governor Theodore Orji and the Abia State University are complicit in this show of shame. Going by the barrage of accusation and counter-accusation oscillating between the state government, the university and supporters of the embattled Kalu, it is glaring, among other things, that the present Visitor has visited opprobrium on the state; that academics and university administrators have compromised their hallowed positions by availing themselves as instrument to desecrate the Ivory Tower; that the purity and sanctity of the processes in the academia are being brought to ridicule.
Apart from cultivating some minimum level of public decency, it is high time governors and political officer holders understood that the job of a state governor is not a part-time one. In this regard, there is need for a code of conduct to address the degree-crazy adventurism of political office holders. This is to enable them pursue the business of governance with the dedication, diligence, service and sense of responsibility it deserves. If a governor is so desirous of acquiring academic degrees and licentiates, he should do so either before or after his gubernatorial engagement. Committing taxpayers’ resources to unnecessary adventurism is unacceptable, contemptible and a disservice to the people
Although ABSU’s belated courage to come out clean may be commended in some quarters, its action is tantamount to a regime of despicable selective justice, whereby people create or invoke a particular law to suit their interest. How come there is an overturn of a decision witnessed by these parties just when their political interests parted ways? Didn’t the university know what it was doing at the time it admitted Kalu as a student of the institution? Why did it take the university 12 years to realize that Orji Uzor Kalu did not satisfy the condition for graduation and award of degree? Is this scandal a fall-out from the tension between the two Orjis?
Notwithstanding the systemic decadence occasioned by increasing mediocrity in the nation’s tertiary institutions, it must be recognized that the university, being a citadel of learning and a bastion of civility and culture, ought not to be turned into an arena of invidious political ping-pong as witnessed in Abia State.
Moreover, being at the forefront of university leadership, academics should eschew the desecration of noble academic traditions in consonance with their adulatory certification of ‘worthy in character and learning’. They should continually withstand the subterranean influences of dirty politicking by insisting that only men and women of proven integrity are elected to leadership position in the university system.
Beyond this, the people, to whom the government belongs, should exercise their moral obligation to demand quality service from those who serve them. The country will be well served and saved from the foible and folly of charlatans, if the people persistently demand quality service from public officers.

UPDATE ON LEGACY PROJECT IN ABIA STATE (PHASE3)

Contemporary Strategic Political Transformation of Abia State.

When a comparison is made between the application of federalism in Nigeria and other democratic climes, it becomes very clear that Nigeria’s style of federalism is just unique. As it is known the world over, a federal system of government, allows the confederating units within the polity to be in charge of their natural and human resources. In such a situation, the states that make up the federation strive to explore and exploit their natural resources to the fullest for the maximum well being of their citizens. They, however, pay royalties to the central government for their sustenance and growth. This was the situation under the 1963 Republican constitution of
Nigeria. The uniqueness of the Nigerian style of federalism stems from the abnormality that unlike how federalism should be practiced, as was the case in 1963, the federal government, through the instrumentality of military dictatorship, took over the control of basically all the resources located in the states, including land and sea. Hence we have exclusive legislation governing those resources in Nigeria.

An inevitable and, rather, unfortunate consequence of this military coercion is that the economies of the states became almost paralyzed. Hence the states are forced to become dependent on the federal government for their economic survival through monthly revenue allocation.
This development implies that the central government wields enormous powers and influence. To survive in an odd federal system like Nigeria’s, it becomes expedient, if not imperative, that leadership of states that make up the Nigerian entity should, apart from being visionary and focused, be guided by maturity, diplomacy and tact.
It is on record that before the emergence of Chief T.A. Orji as Governor of Abia state, the state was regarded as pariah state because of its unwarranted and very costly infantile antagonistic and confrontational posture against the federal government of Nigeria headed by a no-nonsense retired war conquering Army General. For eight years that the confrontationist administration lasted in the State, it was on open secret that the then federal government applied a tacit isolationist policy against Abia state. Hence Abia state government could and did not point at any developmental project it attracted from the central government.
As it is said, when two elephants fight the grass suffers. But in the case of Abia state, it was a rat thinking of fighting a, elephant and, so, the rat did not only get crushed but also caused the innocent grass to wither. The founding fathers of Abia state were divinely inspired to give the appellation; “Gods own state; to the state. It, therefore, becomes obvious that no matter the shape of its vicissitude, Abia state must have light at the end of its tunnel.
Abia state, from a critical look of her current developments, has gone beyond brooding over the devastating consequences of her eight dark years of the locust. Today, it is crystal clear that there is unity of purpose, unity of time and unity of action, all geared towards the enhancement good governance in the state. It, therefore, becomes absolutely reasonable that a former governor of the state who, out of sheer greed and inclination to opportunism and taking undue advantage of being a sitting governor coerced the senate of Abia state university, uturu into awarding a degree to him unmeritorious should stop deceiving himself   by wanting the world, to believe that Governor T.A. Orji was instrumental to be inevitability of the nullification and consequent withdrawal of his so-called degree certificate
After all, no one should have one’s cake and still eat it. For critical observers and analysts of the contemporary Abia polity, the state is in a comfortable and very assuring position of restoration of her lost glory. In appreciating this fact. Kudos should be given to governor T.A. Orji for his maturity, administrative ingenuity, diplomacy, prudence and, above all, faith in God. That Abia state has systematically pulled itself out of the status of a federal
government- considered pariah state, being run by a one- family-initiated, teleguided and inhumanly exploited political party to a point of not only total re-integration into Nigeria’s mainstream polities but to the extent where the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria can openly declare the governor as his confidant is a thing that calls for psychological felicitation. To be more specific, the recent elevation of Governor T.A. Orji ofAbia state as one of the six governors in the Caucus of the People’s Democratic Party, an elevation that was initiated and stamped by President Good luck Jonathan himself is, indeed, a contemporary strategic socio-econo-political transformation of God’s own state of Abia. It is, therefore, expected that every .well-meaning indigene, resident and friend of Abia state would not relent in praying that God would continue to give Ochendo the required enablement to help him sustain this bilateral relationship which is surely a manifestation of restoration of lost glory.

JTF Conducts House-To-House Search In Kano

Operatives of the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) on Monday conducted a house-to-house search in some areas of Kano metropolis.
The areas included the Yankaba and Eastern Bye-pass roads.
Residents of the areas told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the search started very early in the morning.
A resident, Malam Yuhuza Rabiu, said ``the military people moved in very early in the morning. They caught us unawares and we could not move out to our places of work''.
``But things are a bit ok now. It is already 12 noon and I am on my way to work.’’
Most travellers coming into the city from the Jigawa, Bauchi and Maiduguri axis were affected by the early morning search as the road was blocked, disallowing movement in and out of the affected areas.
The JTF Spokesman, Cpt. Ikedichi Iweha, could not be reached on the situation as his telephone failed to connect when a NAN correspondent placed several calls to the line.

Amnesty For Boko Haram: Presidency Hits Back At Critics

The Presidency, on Monday, hit back at the proponents of amnesty for the Boko Haram, saying they were politicising the issue.

photo The Presidency, on Monday, hit back at the proponents of amnesty for the Boko Haram, saying they were politicising the issue.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe  stated this in a statement in Abuja.
President Goodluck Jonathan had,  during a visit to Yobe State a few weeks ago, said that the Federal Government could not grant amnesty to the militant Islamic sect.
He had said, “We cannot declare amnesty for Boko Haram because we cannot declare amnesty for ghosts. You cannot liken Boko Haram to what happened in the Niger Delta.”
Before the President made the statement, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar III, had urged the Federal Government to grant total amnesty for Boko Haram.

Zambia Arrests Former President Over Nigeria Oil Deal

Former Zambian president, Mr. Rupiah Banda, was arrested on Monday by the country’s law enforcement agents over allegations of corruption and abuse of office, following a crude oil import deal with Nigeria.

photo Former Zambian president, Mr. Rupiah Banda, was arrested on Monday by the country’s law enforcement agents over allegations of corruption and abuse of office, following a crude oil import deal with Nigeria.

Banda was also alleged to have misappropriated about $11 million during his three-year reign as President of the country.
The country’s authorities are accusing him of procuring oil which did not benefit the country.

He was said to have imported crude oil from Nigeria, without actual deliveries, despite the fact that the funds were deposited into the bank account of his son.
Banda, who was released from police custody and is due to appear in court on Tuesday, however, said the moves against him are politically motivated.
He was questioned for close to three hours after his arrest related to the oil deal Monday before he was released on bail.
Banda denies the charges, and his lawyers claim the arrest is an attempt by current President Michael Sata to silence him.
After his release, Banda appeared before his supporters and told them to remain calm, reassuring them he would win his case in court.

Earlier this month, parliament lifted Banda’s presidential immunity, clearing the way for him to be prosecuted for several corruption and abuse of office charges.
Banda lost to President Michael Sata in 2011 elections. The new government has been pursuing the corruption investigations against the former leader and his political allies.
Banda, born 13 February 1937, was President of Zambia from 2008 to 2011.
During the Presidency of Kenneth Kaunda, Banda held important diplomatic posts and was active in politics as a member of the United National Independence Party (UNIP). Years later, he was appointed as Vice-President by President Levy Mwanawasa in October 2006, following the latter’s re-election.
He took over Mwanawasa’s presidential responsibilities after Mwanawasa suffered a stroke in June 2008, and following Mwanawasa’s death in August 2008, he became acting President. As the candidate of the governing Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD), he narrowly won the October 2008 presidential election, according to official results.
Opposition leader Michael Sata defeated Banda in the September 2011 presidential election, and Sata accordingly succeeded Banda as President on 23 September 2011.

Grant Boko Haram Amnesty or Risk Civil War, Ribadu Warns Jonathan

Former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman presidential candidate under the Action Congress of Nigeria banner in the last election, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, has warned President Jonathan to grant Boko Haram amnesty or stand the risk of losing Nigeria to a civil war.

Speaking on a radio programme on Liberty FM this past weekend in Kaduna Ribadu said  “Jonathan was wrong to have said he will not grant amnesty to Boko Haram; he should not fail to protect the people and when people call saying we are tired, we are down; even if it means to dialogue and have an solution to the whole process, he should opt for such.....You cannot say they are faceless because faceless people do not do things like this. Faceless people cannot be responsible and daily you see them on Facebook. Faceless people cannot be in your custody; ghosts cannot be people that are in the community, people who at a point wanted to dialogue.”
 He also added that “Nigerians will lose Nigeria to a civil war.” at the rate of current events if nothing drastic is done to curtail terrorism.

Of late, there have been calls for the granting of amnesty to Boko Haram. The calls were sparked of by a plea by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar who is also the head of the Jam'atu Nasril Islam (JNI). In February the Sultan called on the President to give Boko Haram amnesty for the sake of peace.  Since then prominent Northern Muslims have added their voices to his call.

A TRIBUTE POEM TO CHINUA ACHEBE

A TRIBUTE POEM TO CHINUA ACHEBE

I will cloy me with egregious wine,
if he re-course to rest, I won't dine;
his demise lives me open to reproach;
death that made me felt like cockroach,
a thief with trait that reeks;
City’s reeled of its re-entry this weeks.
Embrace me, O vice of drunkenness;
on the day of Achebe's death,
I will clothe me with tears which a death of no importance chiselled in me;
to learn of the mystery ,
I have grown much older than fledgling;
not any more regarded as stripling.
I’m not destitute of sheer senses;
the blind could see it without lenses.
by his death, I strut on the stage with independent feet;
and keep up appearances without great feat;
I could not guide my faculties with orison;
with earnest haste I crave for benison.
Drunk though as I am, I keep reckoning him;
few among many speak ill of him;
He made learning a house of stone;
it pinnacle seemed like cone;
a place where I learn new tricks;
palace of castle built with bricks,
where I resort for joy
Alas, why this extinction?
The gift endowed us with is the envy of our enemy.
The man who sure knew the manner of the day, is gone,
the laureate who best knew the way to the happy ending,
possessed the strength of youth in the morning,
held the sapience of age as an octogenarian.
Good bye the great man of the East

MAN HARASSED FOR HAVING FEMALE ORGANS

THIS IS SHEER IGNORANCE. IHE NE ME NA UWA

MAN HARASSED FOR HAVING FEMALE ORGANS

Have you ever seen someone with both male and female organs? Well if you have not, Saturday Tribune ran into one last Wednesday at Sapele, Delta State.
A man in his late 40s, who refused to utter a word despite the hysteria his presence generated, was almost lynched by a mob but for the intervention of police and other security agents.
The man, whose name could not be ascertained as of press time, was discovered to possess a full grown pair of breasts, which dangled from his chest, just like those of a young woman.
An angry mob was going for the kill when security operatives were quickly drafted to the scene. Their (mob) grouse was that it was strange and unacceptable that a man would possess dual sex organs.
Young men near a filling station at the Sapele-Warri/New Road junction tore the man’s clothes, and revealed a very small male organ, allegedly with no scrotum – which to them suggested that he was a hermaphrodite.
Saturday Tribune gathered from some onlookers who claimed to know the man that he had been seeking spiritual solutions to his problem by moving from one church to another.
It was further learnt that at one of the churches, he started manifesting some strange behaviours while for some time he hid his male and female sexual organs from church officials who later found out his status as a hermaphrodite.
The voice and face of the man were masculine even as he was said to also have female reproductive organs.
Men of the Nigeria Police in Sapele, and the other security operatives who were drafted to scene, quickly dislodged the irate mob, who were taking turns to fiddle with the man’s sex organs, ostensibly to further confirm their suspicions that the man was really a freak.
He was thereafter spirited away by the police to the Sapele Police Station for protective custody and investigations.---proud to be yoruba

Deadly Snake On The Loose!

62f0be1d389d7865c562415d1452623c

Staff at a zoo in South Africa are watching their step after a highly dangerous snake escaped from its enclosure.

Pretoria Zoo’s black mamba – one of the fastest and most venomous snakes in the world – is believed to be hiding somewhere in the zoo grounds after it was reported missing over a week ago.
Now, desperate staff at the zoo in South Africa’s capital are using infra-red cameras in a bid to find the six-and-a-half foot (two metre) missing reptile – before it finds one of them.

Marketing manager Craig Allenby said he hoped the snake was hiding in the roof of a service building behind its terrarium.

Staff have placed snacks of rats, mice and chicks in the service area in a bid to tempt the snake out, but it has yet to bite.
Mr Allenby’s team is using cameras which can pick up radiation emitted by bodies and even objects as cold-blooded as killer snakes.
Another theory is that the snake may have been stolen.  Zoo staff say there is a trade for indigenous reptiles such as Houdini, as they have named the missing mamba.
However despite the uncertainty over the snake’s whereabouts, a Friday night zoo tour and sleepover at the attraction are still going to go ahead – albeit at a distance from the snake enclosure, and with guards on hand.
Mr Allenby told Sowetan Live: ‘We would like to assure the public of our utmost commitment to resolving this issue as quickly as possible.
‘There is no additional threat to the public.’
The Easter Egg hunts planned for Easter weekend will also go ahead.  Hundreds of children are expected to flock to the zoo to hunt for 20,000 chocolate eggs.
Bites from the black mamba nearly always result in the victim’s death.
Black mambas are known as Africa’s most feared snakes, and with good reason.  Just two drops of their venom can kill a human, and they have up to 20 drops in their fangs.
The venom contains a fast-acting neurotoxin that paralyses and kills it prey.  Such is its strength, black mambas can kill a lion with just one bite.

Nigeria Grabs Late Equaliser Against Kenya In Calabar

France v Nigeria - International Friendly

The Harambee stars of Kenya proved their worth today at the U.J Esuene stadium, Calabar as Nigeria had to fight till the last minutes before getting a draw.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria dominated the match, but the eagles were shy in front of goal as many chances were lost. One of the players who was missed due to his daunting runs down the right flank was Efe Ambrose who was on suspension.
At the 35th minute, Francis Nyambura broke the deadlock with a fabulous free-kick. The Kenyans held on and went into the break leading the African Champions by one goal.
Coach Stephen felt a need for a change upfront and returning Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins who was sacrificed at the 60th minute for Ahmed Musa. The hardwork continued, but the Super Eagles still couldn’t find the back of the net.
Odumadi was introduced at the 75th minute for Sunday Mba who didn’t really have a good game. Kenya also brought in Jumba for Wainana.
The scores remained 1-0 with Kenya leading, and Walter coming in for Kenya to replace Oliech while John Ogu replaced Victor Moses who had been a thorn in the flesh of the Kenyans from the blast of the whistle.
There was a lot said about officiating from the beginning of the match; it got worse when coach of the Kenyan side Adel Amrouche was sent off for reasons not clear, leaving much more to be said about African referees’ officiating.
Nnamdi Odumadi who came in for Sunday Mba, an AFCON hero for Nigeria was another hero, as he equalised for Nigeria at the 90th minute with five minutes added on.
Speaking after the match, Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo said; “We lost a lot of chances. I don’t think there’s pressure but there’s a huge expectation around the team.”
Malawi also won their Group F match, leaving them just behind Nigeria at the top of the table locked on five points, but trailing on goal difference.
Nigeria’s next World Cup qualifying match will be against Kenya away in Nairobi in June.

Peter Okoye Reveals The Only Thing That Can Split P Square

P-Square1
They’ve worked and warmed their ways up into the hearts of fans worldwide; the pop duo P Square are doing great and winning more hearts.
P Square was in Malawi recently, and the reception was awesome, as they thrilled Malawians with their electrifying stage display.
It was rumoured sometimes ago that P Square’s ‘Alingo’ video was banned, but Peter says the ban was a good promotion for the song.
“We heard about the ban. But when they ban a particular song, they are indeed helping to promote that song. By the way, if they ban a song from being broadcast in Nigerian stations, will they stop MTV, Channel O, Soundcity and other cable networks from playing the same song? It’s not possible.”
“Psquare for the past five years hasn’t done any dance video and our fans expected to see something of that nature from us. So, ‘Alingo’ was just the first song we had even before the ‘Invasion’ album came out. We didn’t take the song seriously until when our fans started loving it. And before we knew what was happening, it caught fire. We had no choice than to give our fans a video,” Peter said.
“When the song started picking up, we thought it is important to give our fans something they have never gotten from P Square in the past five years. The last time we did something similar to this, ‘Roll It’ was over five years ago. It took us a lot of time and energy to produce the album. Our senior brother, Jude who is also our manager shot the video. Interestingly, most people didn’t know that the video was shot in Nigeria. We went to an abandoned warehouse situated some ten minutes away from our Lagos residence to shoot the video.”
Peter also spoke about P Square’s relationship with Akon, on whose Konvict Music they’re also signed, saying they’ve known him for many years.
“Our relationship with Akon is great. We have known Akon for over six year but we were not looking forward to working with him until last two years when he attended our concert in London. After watching us perform on stage, he developed interest in working with us.
Then, he was planning to open a branch of his Konvict Musik record label in Africa and he was in need of business partners who would help him coordinate the business. That was how we teamed up with him to establish Konvict Musik in Nigeria. We are representing Akon in Africa just as he is representing in America. That’s the whole idea.”
There was a time rumours of P Square buying a private jet went viral. As much as fans were happy for them saying they deserve it, Peter says P Square does not own a private jet.
“There was nothing like that. I guess because it was included in our list that whenever we are going for a specific show, the organsiers must provide us with a private jet. We had a deal with a private jet company which always hire their private jet to us whenever we are in need of it. It’s like we have a private jet at our disposal. I remember, I once tweeted that a private jet has been included in our list. That was how people started speculating that Psquare has bought a private jet. But we always travel with the jet all the time.
But the brand is getting bigger and P Square is getting more shows, so it’s not a weird idea to get a private jet.
“To be honest with you, the way things are going, we are planning to buy one,” Peter says. And it’s not because of the cost implication of hiring a private jet, but the fact that we want to meet up with our concerts.”
P Square is proud of the success achieved so far, and think they’ve done virtually everything any singer should do.
“I think we have virtually done everything. But I don’t want our fans to start speculating in respect of when would Psquare break into the European or American market. Africa is the next big thing for Psquare even though Americans are in dire need of our kind of stuff. They have exhausted everything they have to offer. For me, I will rather be a king in my own vicinity than to try to be a king in another man’s land. We have achieved everything except that we have not been able to structure the industry. The problem is that when we try to do so, some greedy fellows always frustrate our efforts. For me, I’m not complaining but I just feel it is important, we structure the industry for a better tomorrow.”

peterpsq
Peter thinks P Square’s largest market in Africa is the East.

“At the moment, it’s East Africa. Anytime Nigerians say, they are through with Psquare, will take our things and relocate to East Africa. But South Africa is a place where we have been working for the past one year building market for our songs. We took a break in January, this year, and between February and March, we have been to Zambia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe. We were in Angola two weeks ago and just last week, we stormed Malawi. So, our potential market at the moment is South Africa. We have built all these markets by ourselves alone.”
But Peter says people’s perception about P Square is wrong; Peter and Paul are not arrogant.
“I think Psquare is very intimidating and we are not arrogant. When you saw me today, did I look arrogant?, Peter asked Njoku who interviewed him. “That’s a wrong impression people have about us. There is Peter and there is Paul. Peter is stubborn, bad and controversial, but they say Paul is quiet, cool headed and all that. But you see, you cannot steal from Peter to pay Paul. If you steal from Peter to pay Paul, you are indeed paying Psquare. I’m a very controversial person and I’m not expecting every news about me to be positive. Psquare is not arrogant; it’s just that the people are scared of approaching them, considering the way we operate. When you see Psquare stepping out, we look very intimidating. But the people who are very close know that we are not arrogant. Beyonce could visit a shopping mall today, and the whole place will be shut down. That does not make her arrogant. It is her management that has made it to be so.”
Many promising and somewhat great musical groups have split in the past, but P Square have something going for them; they are brothers; twin brothers. When asked what can make P Square split, Peter had this to say;
“Each time, people look at Peter and Paul, they conclude that we are perfect. But they don’t know that I fight with Paul the same way he fights with me. We quarrel and fight with each other the same way you quarrel and fight with your siblings. The only thing that matters most is that we don’t bring such quarrel into our business.
“I always tell my friends, the only person who will tell us to split is our mother but she’s no more. Even if she were to be alive, would she allow us to split? The day we are going to make up our minds to split, it will be an open decision. May be, when I say I want to retire or Paul says he wants to continue with his career in music. That does not mean that I wouldn’t give him my support.
Peter noted that being together goes beyond brotherhood…but money which is the root cause of most split has never been a problem between him and Paul.
“It goes beyond brotherhood. The Jacksons split. There was this group that wanted to split some time ago, I intervened and made them see reasons they should remain together no matter the odds. Yes, money might be the cause of the split. But I don’t share money with Paul. That’s the way we have been working because we never had anything from the outset. I’m not saying this because you are interviewing me, between Paul and I, money has never been a problem.
Peter was quick to add that no woman can split Peter and Paul. “Every woman wants to hang out with Peter. This is because everybody knows that Peter is more outgoing than Paul. But I doubt if woman can cause a problem between Paul and myself. Money would have been the devil that will cause a problem between us than woman. Any woman that wants to cause between us is wasting her time.
